Woodwindows.com Project Carnegie Hall

The existing wood windows at Carnegie Hall were to be replicated with custom wood windows and updated for increased sound isolation. Woodwindows.com was able to refurbish the existing windows and manufactured replacement sash with 1 1/5" inch insulated glass. The glass was composed os special laminated glass with two different thickness of the laminate. The outboard side was similar but the dissimilar side reversed toward the inboard. This effectively changed the thickness of each piece of glass from the exterior to the interior. Since most materials have a resonant frequency, the sound transmission was reduced by both the mass and the placement of dissimilar thicknesses across the insulated units. The effect was that the Carnegie Hall windows exceed the performance standards of new windows and still satisfied Landmarks.

The Construction Manager for the Project Was Tishman Construction, The Architect was James Stewart Polsheck & Partners. Woodewindows.com collaborated with Schlegel Corp on the project.
